Rotary Roundup with Twinsburg Rotarian Guy Gentile
10/20/03
Wayne Urban, president of the Bedford Rotary club, spoke at a recent
Rotary luncheon about a new product he developed and the complexities
involved in getting to the final product.
He said he spent 200 to 300 hours finding a manufacturer he felt comfortable
with, along with much time with the in-depth patent process and additional
time with the trademark and trade name applications. In the process, he
learned everything in the medical arena takes an enormous amount of time.
His product is called "Webb's leg sling," after his step son
who developed a problem with his foot and ended up with a makeshift sling.
The device suspends the extremity several inches above the floor. It is
used in conjunction with either crutches or a walker and it allow the
foot to be protected for long periods of time with less patient effort
and increased balance.
We thank Urban for taking the time to share his experiences.
